Limited influence of winter conditions on price fluctuations expected

February 2nd, 2010 - Ongoing winter conditions in Europe are not expected to result in winterkill for the winter grains due to decent snow cover.

Estimated area reductions for the new crop malting barley point to an average of 10-20% down. This reduction has mostly been directed towards wheat. As a result the total grain crop potential for the EU27 countries is about unchanged.

The recent USDA report, released 12th Jan, confirmed slow exports of all grains resulting in even larger global carry-out stocks for the current season.

On this basis it can be assumed that price fluctuations shall be limited until planting of the spring crops.
